The Lift Above Poverty Organisation (LAPO) has given out N18.6 billion to about 137,000 farmers in the first three months of 2025. This is a big increase, up 31 percent from the same time last year.

According to a statement from Mr. Victor Noruwa, an executive director at the organization, the money was given out to help farmers and farm businesses across 22 states in Nigeria. He urged the farmers to use the funds wisely to improve their work and create sustainable businesses.

Ms. Tessa Anota, a vice president at LAPO, noted that the money was given out through a program called the LAPO Household Poultry and Livestock Initiative (LAHPLI). She said that the program has “proven instrumental in empowering smallholder farmers, particularly in rural communities, helping them scale operations, improve food security, and increase income.”

The organization says it is committed to helping improve the income and living conditions of rural families, with a special focus on women and youth.

This news shows that microfinance organizations are playing a vital role in helping Nigerian farmers. By giving out large amounts of money in small loans, they are helping a huge number of people who might not be able to get help from traditional banks.

The fact that the funds are specifically targeted at farmers, and particularly women and youth, is very important. This helps solve some of the biggest problems in Nigerian agriculture, such as low productivity and a lack of access to money and modern tools. The money could help farmers buy better seeds, livestock, and equipment, which would lead to a more stable food supply for the entire country.
