Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has shown his government’s commitment to boosting agriculture by aligning his administration’s ARISE Agenda with President Bola Tinubu’s national Renewed Hope Agenda. The governor is focusing on mechanized farming, food security, and local economic growth.
Key Projects and Goals
During a recent inspection, Governor Eno reviewed progress on two major projects:
The State Agricultural Equipment Leasing Company:
This facility in Uyo will provide farmers with access to modern farm equipment like tractors. It will also have a workshop for repairs and a training center for operators. The goal is to help farmers reduce waste after harvest and increase productivity. The governor has approved the release of funds to speed up its completion.
The 50-hectare Ibom Model Farms:
Located in Nsit Ubium, this farm is being developed as a model for modern farming practices.
The governor has ordered that construction of farm roads and drainage channels be sped up to improve accessibility. He also directed that at least 40% of the new contracts for the project should be given to local companies to support the community.
Governor Eno also inspected a housing estate, the Dakkada Luxury Estate, and gave directions for critical infrastructure to be completed quickly, showing that his government is focused on both agricultural and urban development.
This is relevant because it shows how state-level agricultural policies, like the ARISE Agenda, are being designed to support and strengthen national-level initiatives, like the Renewed Hope Agenda, to achieve food security and economic growth across Nigeria.
